Departmental Overview
The Department of Arts functions in accordance with the academic framework, statutes, ordinances, and regulations of the University of Mumbai. The department offers the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programme with a choice-based credit system (CBCS) / NEP-aligned structure as prescribed by the University of Mumbai from time to time. The curriculum is designed to promote critical thinking, analytical ability, effective communication, ethical values, and social responsibility. The department emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, experiential education, cultural awareness, and community engagement, thereby preparing students for higher education, competitive examinations, research, and diverse career opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Admission to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programme is governed by the eligibility criteria laid down by the University of Mumbai and the Government of Maharashtra
- A candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Examination (10+2) conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or any other examination recognized as equivalent there to by the University of Mumbai

Mission
The Department of Arts is dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of the human experience through the study of Politics, Economics, Psychology, and literature. We aim to cultivate intellectual curiosity, develop critical and creative thinking skills of diverse cultural, social, and ethical perspectives. We prepare students to become informed, compassionate, and responsible global citizens, ready to address the challenges of a rapidly evolving world.
Departments Under Faculty of Arts
Department of Political Science
The Department of Political Science focuses on the systematic study of political theory, Indian and comparative politics, public administration, international relations, and constitutional values. The department aims to develop informed, responsible, and active citizens with a strong understanding of democratic institutions and governance.
Objectives
- To introduce students to the Indian Constitution
- To have a basic understanding of Indian Democracy and it's functioning
- To create awareness among students about the relationship between Indian Politics and Social factors that shape the Political system
Programme Objectives
- To provide students at the UG level a comprehensive understanding of the discipline
- To make students understand fundamental concepts, theories, perspectives, moral discourses in the discipline
- To expose students to interdisciplinary knowledge
- To introduce students to diverse sub-fields in the discipline and its application to develop employability opportunity and skills among students

Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology provides scientific knowledge of human behavior and mental processes. The curriculum emphasizes psychological theories, research methods, mental health awareness, and application of psychology in personal, social, and organizational contexts.

- To learn foundational concepts of psychology, like learning and memory, biological basis, etc.
- To understand the role of psychology in real life, like stress, adjustment
- To understand aspects of psychology like emotions, and motivation
- To learn about history and fields of psychology
- To acquire basic knowledge of research methods and data representation
- To know about vocational application of psychology
- To elevate the skillset and knowledge of learners

Department of Economics
The Department of Economics focuses on understanding economic theories, policies, and their applications in real-world contexts. The department equips students with analytical and quantitative skills to interpret economic issues related to growth, development, markets, and public finance.
Program Objectives
The primary objective of the B.A. Economics program is to provide students with a strong foundational and analytical understanding of economic concepts, theories, and applications relevant to contemporary economic issues. The program aims to develop critical thinking, quantitative skills, and policy-oriented perspectives among learners so that they can analyze real-world economic problems at the micro and macro levels.
The curriculum is designed in line with NEP 2020, emphasizing multidisciplinary learning, skill enhancement, vocational orientation, and research aptitude. It seeks to prepare students for higher education, competitive examinations, entrepreneurship, and employment in public, private, and international organizations while fostering responsible citizenship and ethical economic decision-making.

1. Economic Knowledge
Demonstrate a clear understanding of fundamental concepts, principles, and theories of microeconomics, macroeconomics, Indian economy, public finance, and development economics.
2. Analytical & Critical Thinking
Analyze economic problems using logical reasoning, graphical tools, and theoretical frameworks to interpret market behavior, economic trends, and policy outcomes.
3. Quantitative & Data Skills
Apply basic statistical, mathematical, and data analysis techniques to interpret economic data and support evidence-based decision-making.
4. Policy & Institutional Analysis
Evaluate the impact of economic policies, government schemes, financial institutions, and regulatory frameworks on different sectors and stakeholders.
